#8. Uki's Letters | Cultural Tutor | Sailing

Let's make emails more personal.

Dear Reader

I am writing only a short letter tonight.
Yes, a letter, not a post, not an article, a letter.

What is inside?

Why write letters?

I met a family friend today; she asked, “There was no email from you today!?
It got me thinking about the format of what I am writing.

Very few of my previous articles were answered, so I have no feedback. It was a one-way street. I did not know if my posts were read, liked, anticipated, or ignored.

Letters, unlike posts, are meant to be addressed to a singular person, which means you, the reader. Letters are also meant to be answered. So please hit “reply” when you see it in your inbox. That is what I mean when I say, “I want to build a community.”

Cultural Tutor on Twitter (x.com)

I would like to introduce you to the “Cultural Tutor” I think you will find the daily writing exciting, educational, and laced with culture. This is precisely what we all need every day.

Today, it was about Petra.

Sailing next weekend

I will be super busy this week, so there will be little time for writing here. My work and my kids are keeping me fully booked.

On top of that, next weekend, I am taking a sailing class. I took it once about 15 years ago, but I need a refresher, especially since I do not know the local waters in the Pacific Northwest. There are rocks, strong tidal currents, etc, things I never encountered while sailing the Great Lakes.
I want to sail around Vancouver Island and the fjords of British Columbia. I have always dreamt about sailing the Pacific, all the way to French Polynesia, New Zealand, and Australia.

I need to prepare and read the book on sailing for the class this week, too.
If you are interested in sailing, please write to me, and I will happily share my experiences.

Why do I include the mission statement?

My mission statement:

“A compendium of letters blending technology startup management, stoic philosophy, active lifestyle ethos, and a love for culture. It aims to mentor and inspire through insightful content and practical advice, focusing on personal and professional growth for a balanced and fulfilling life.”

~ Uki D. Lucas

In every letter, I post my mission statement. Why do I do it?

This is partly for myself to keep on track but also for you so you know there is an underlying theme to my ramblings.

I am not a “reader”. I have a name!

I started this letter with a few email addresses in my contact book. Of course, at first, I will not know everyone who subscribes by name.

If you want to change how I call you, please click on the icon at the top left, go to Manage Subscription, and click “Edit details.”

You can help me, too.

  1. I will receive a financial incentive if you sign up for the BeeHiiv blogging platform. You should have a blog and email it to your friends anyway.

  2. After reading, please click “Read online” in the top-right corner and visit the website. I usually UPDATE the posts the next day after getting the readers' feedback.

  3. Open my Book Library page and make sure you visit Amazon links. I receive a financial incentive at no extra cost to you.

  4. I haven't figured out how to get more subscribers yet.
So, organic growth is all I count on.

Please forward this email to your friends.

  • One friend for every reader would double my readership.

  • Ten friends would “10x” and send the subscriptions into a stratosphere!
